iPhone 3G iOS4 software update "coming soon"

iPhone 3G iOS4 performance problems update: Mr. Jobs said on August 19th an update was "coming soon." Fifteen long days of crashing iPhone apps and iPhone reboots, and still there is no update available. (Wait - an update has been promised for September 8, 2010.)

With several media outlets reporting that Steve Jobs told someone by email yesterday that an iPhone 3G iOS4 software update was "coming soon", I thought I'd share my latest iPhone 3G iOS4 performance problems of the last 24 hours:

  • Three iPod crashes (it never starts after I tap the iPod icon)
  • iBooks - two crashes
  • Facebook - two crashes
  • Camera - one crash, then ~15 seconds for the camera to take a photo

Technically, I'm not sure these iPhone 3G iOS 4 apps are "crashing", or just being shut down because they are starting up very slow. I think I read somewhere that the iOS 4 software will kill an app if it doesn't start up properly in 30 seconds, and it seems like that's what is happening here.

The thing that irks me in all of this is that if Apple had all these performance problems when they shipped the first iPhone models the media would have roasted them, and everyone would have been saying, "What happened to Apple quality?" I updated to iOS 4.02 as soon as it came out, hoping it would help fix these iPhone 3G iOS 4 performance/crashing problems, but no, that didn't work.

So, here's a little update to Apple's iPhone 3G iOS 4 software update propaganda:

iPhone 3G iOS 4 software update - Steve Jobs says "coming soon"

Mr. Jobs, while "getting it right the first time" sure would have been nice, at this point an iOS 4 software update sure would be nice. Either that, or make it very easy for us to go back to the previous iPhone 3G OS version.

Oh, and the clock is ticking ... make note of it, Mr. Jobs is recording as saying an iOS 4 update for the iPhone 3G performance problems is "coming soon", as of August 19, 2010.

iOS 4 update finally arrives

September 9, 2010, and the iOS 4 iPhone 3G software update finally arrives. Yippy, I don't feel abused any more.
