I'm still living in the Perl world, and that's a good thing. Did I mention that Perl rules for text processing?! Perl is the technology that enables "smart news", or whatever I choose to call it (other name candidates: filtered news, robonews, newsbot).
I like to go to this page and see a bunch of news stories from different sites, with all of the links weeded out by a simple keyword search algorithm. Only the news I want to see, with the extraneous stuff weeded out. As I get into this further I can see the need for a little AI/Expert System technology. It's not needed just yet, but I can see where it might be useful in the long term.
