Dear Google,
About Chrome, well, I've had to quit using it. If you'll look at all the bug reports I've filed, you'll see there are several problems when trying to use it with Yahoo Mail. It also doesn't render several websites properly, and I've reported those as well. And lately it keeps crashing. I notice this when it takes two attempts to close every tab, and then finally I just have to "force quit" Chrome.
Chrome definitely seems faster than Firefox and other browsers, but once I realized I was "living with" all these little problems just for the little speed increase, well, it just doesn't seem worth it.
Best wishes,
Al
Seeing that Chrome uses the
Seeing that Chrome uses the same rendering engine as Safari, of which I'm using, I'm interested in what sites it's rendering wrongly.
Chrome and Safari
It's an interesting problem that I'm looking at now. While Safari works great with Yahoo Mail, Chrome has one major problem related to layout, and a second problem related to sending messages that caused me to finally quit using it yesterday.
Two other websites I've seen problems with are:
There are a couple of other sites, but I can't remember them atm. A usual problem has been that Chrome doesn't respect the page margins, so the content goes all the way to the left margin, which is annoying when you're trying to read. That being said, I'm not seeing this problem yet this today.
That is interesting indeed.
That is interesting indeed. So far I haven't encountered this problem, but it may be happening at random. The only way I can think of for this erratic behaviour is one, those sites' admin were screwing around with their stylesheets, or two, Chrome's page rendering actually changes at runtime/restart, though both seems kinda improbable to me. Do keep us readers updated though if you find the cause.
Also what browser would you be switching to? Firefox or Opera? Cause Safari seems to have a memory leak issue (my personal record is over 2GB, yes you read that right!) and it slows down your com and eventually crashes when the com runs out of memory to allocate to it. The only reason I'm not affected that much is because I'm currently running an iMac with 8GB of RAM.
Safari memory use
I'm using Safari to read my Yahoo mail at the moment, but you're right, it's gobbled up 300MB just for that, while Firefox has eight tabs open and is using less memory.
I initially went back to using Firefox for Yahoo mail, until I was quickly reminded of this Firefox/Yahoo memory leak. I've never tried Opera on a Mac, so I may give that a spin next.
Go Chicago!
Seeing as how you mention the Chicago Tribune I thought I'd just add the following related comments (I'm extrapolating and making the assumption that you are a Chicago fan):
Go Cubs Go!
Go Bears
Go Blackhawks
Go Bulls
...and, even as a Cubs fan, Go White Sox!!!
btw, your site is great - like the MVC articles.
