My planet is destroyed by a black hole

(These are notes from a dream. I don’t remember how, but somehow I know that the time in the dream is 3:40am. The date is March 2, 2012.)

I’ve been watching a tv show, and I’m stunned that the main character in the show has just died. What’s going to happen to the show? There’s a knock on the door. A woman is looking for someone, and only mentions her name by initials. I call out to my wife, who was also watching the show. She says she’s not here right now, come back later.

As the woman leaves, I step outside with her, and bask in the early morning sunshine. How great it is to enjoy an early morning sunrise like this. Wait, should it be sunny now? Am I in Alaska?

I turn around and look at our building, and it’s a three-story brick building. I don’t know how the arrangement works, but by seeing the building I intuitively know we share it with other people, including the girl the woman was looking for.

To the right of the building there’s a body of water, and I see animals swimming in it. They look large, like dolphins, but darker than I’d expect. I don’t know why, but I suddenly jump at the water, and then I’m pleasantly surprised as I fly over the animals as they swim, first left, then right, but as I’m enjoying this, I “know” that something is wrong, something feels wrong. I fly over to an area of grass and pavement by the street and land there.

I turn back and look around, and as I look up I see a horrible whirlpool in the sky. It’s like water being sucked down the drain, but instead of water, our atmosphere is being sucked out of our sky. In a moment I’m back in the house, and close the door. I start to tell my wife what’s happening, but she says there’s an emergency news bulletin, and our planet is being destroyed by a black hole. It’s not clear if scientists knew this would happen and didn’t say anything so people wouldn’t panic, or if they didn’t know.

I want us to die together with our dogs, and one of them is outside, so I go to the back door to get him. It’s everything I can do to get him into the house, and with our atmosphere being sucked away the air is incredibly thin, and I can barely breath. I’m trying to close the back door, but the vacuum outside is sucking all the breathable air out of the house, making it almost impossible. Finally I get it closed against the pressure. Very little air is left, and we’re gasping for breath.

The back doors are transparent, and we look up in the sky, and see an enormous ribbon of ... blackness. The ribbon starts at sea level, and stretches way up into the sky. It’s narrow, but we watch as our atmosphere (and perhaps other light material) from our planet is pulled into the blackness and then disappears.

I grab my wife, and as we try to breath we say repeatedly that we love each other. We hold the dogs, and hold each other as tight as we can. I’m blacking out, and my eyes close.

I wake up in bed, gasping for breath. My heart is racing.

I get out of bed, because there’s no way I’m going back to sleep any time soon. I look at a clock, and it shows roughly the same time as the dream, now 3:45am. I look outside, and thankfully it’s all dark, and quiet.
