Logging In - Entering Your Username and Password

To log in to a UNIX computer, you must supply your username and password.

"Username" A unique name that is assigned to you by the system administrator. Often, this is your first or last name.
"Password" A sequence of characters that should be kept confidential. To use your login account, a person must know both your username and password. Other users will know your username, but for security reasons you should not share your password.

The system's name is Intrepid.

Password: (enter your password)  <cr>

(Your instructor will assign your username and password initially for this class.)

As a System Manager, you will typically be assigning the Username and Password for user's at your location.
