Everything is your original face alvin August 17, 2019 - 11:22am

“Originally, nothing. Who made past, present, and future? If you don’t make anything, you will see and hear clearly. Then everything is your original face.”

You must concentrate upon each day alvin August 11, 2019 - 12:44pm

“You must concentrate upon and consecrate yourself wholly to each day, as though a fire were raging in your hair.”

~ Taisen Deshimaru, Questions to a Zen Master

“Truth waits for eyes unclouded by longing”

“Truth waits for eyes unclouded by longing.”

I keep running into various versions of this quote (from sources like the Tao, Ram Dass, and Zen books), so I thought I’d share it here. “The world is won by those who let it go.”

Seeing everything as moving subatomic particles alvin July 29, 2019 - 3:29pm

“Having a direct experience of seeing everything one looks at (including one’s own body) as moving subatomic particles alters the perception of ‘me’ and of the substantiality of what we regard as ‘normal’ reality.”

(I can’t remember where I saw this quote, but I think it had to do with some sort of system that you could walk into and see your body as moving subatomic particles.)

The meaning of the Alanis Morissette song, Thank You (Thank U)

This is my interpretation of the meaning of the Alanis Morissette song, Thank You (also known as Thank U). I don’t claim any special knowledge about the song; this interpretation of the lyrics is just based on my understanding of Zen and Buddhism, and also my practicing of yoga, specifically Iyengar yoga. If you’ve read some of the personal entries on this website, you know a lot of what I know.
