Hate-y bits

In the “lucid dream holodeck” this morning, I was hanging out with a group of peeps when a tornado suddenly appeared. Everyone started running for cover, and I grabbed a dog and started running for a basement when I looked back at it and thought, “This isn’t a tornado, it’s just an insane amount of energy.”

Holding the dog under my right arm, I stood my ground. When I did this, the energy stopped moving like a tornado, and — skipping over the whole “Transformers” thing — it eventually took on a female human form.

Further skipping past our introductions ... I eventually suggested that she talk to some other people in the dreamspace, but she said no, I had less “hate-y bits” than the other people. (Language differences often make for interesting translations.)

Trying to find a way to love all beings

I was writing with a friend recently about trying to find a way to love all beings, and she sent me this quote:

“I leave you free to be yourself: to think your thoughts, indulge your tastes, follow your inclinations, behave in ways that you decide are to your liking.”

When I read that it made me think something like, “I love you (your spirit), and I acknowledge that you’re a separate being here on Earth. I can’t control you, I can’t make you act in a way that I want you to behave (i.e., in a non-harmful way), so I just have to let you be, so you can work out your own karma.”

For some reason that gives me hope that there is a way I can love all beings (not just the good ones).

Ram Dass, Buddha, Maharaj-ji, and Yoda on non-duality

Inspired by a conversation with a friend recently about “trying to love everyone,” I dug into things a little more and found the following information from Ram Dass, Zen masters, the Maharaj-ji (Neem Karoli Baba), and Yoda.

As I keep trying to figure out what Ram Dass means when he says, “love everyone,” I dug through his book, be love now and found these two quotes:

Steve Jobs: Fox News has become an incredibly destructive force in our society alvin August 11, 2019 - 10:05am

I remember reading this story where Steve Jobs was apparently friends with Rupert Murdoch, and Jobs tried to tell Murdoch that Fox News had become a destructive force in American society, and this might be Murdoch’s legacy.

It reminds me that when I first became a consultant, I was supposed to help sell a product named UnixWare from a company named Novell. Over time I learned that the product was crappy, and I didn’t want to sell it to anyone. So I learned the lesson, “Beware anyone that is trying to sell you something; if their morals are compromised, who knows what they’ll sell you.”

If you’re to believe Steve Jobs, this makes me wonder why Fox News would want to a destructive force in society. And like social networks, Fox News viewers are the product and their advertisers are the customers. (To be continued...)

You have this one life

As a guy who’s been unconscious seven times I like this, “You have one life” quote. Take it from me, when your lights go out, one of the main thoughts you’ll have is, “I wish I had done <fill in the blank>.”

(The quote appears to be by Beardsley Jones, and the image was put together by tinybuddha.com.)

Within You Without You (lyrics to the Beatles song)

Perhaps because of the sitar and the way they sing, I find it a little hard to understand the lyrics for the Beatles song, “Within You Without You”, so here are those lyrics:

We were talking about the space between us all
And the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth, then it’s far too late, when they pass away

We were talking about the love we all could share
When we find it, to try our best to hold it there with our love
With our love, we could save the world, if they only knew

Try to realize it’s all within yourself
No one else can make you change
And to see you’re really only very small
And life flows on within you and without you

We were talking about the love that’s gone so cold
And the people who gain the world and lose their soul
They don’t know, they can’t see, are you one of them?

When you’ve seen beyond yourself then you may find
Peace of mind is waiting there
And the time will come when you see we’re all one
And life flows on within you and without you
