To resolve printer problems you should follow an orderly diagnostic procedure.
1. Check the printer for physical problems:
- Power?
- Data cable?
- On-line?
- Paper jam?
- Ribbon or toner out?
- Paper out?
2. Check the spooler status with lpstat -t
- Is the scheduler (lpsched) running?
- Are there any jobs in the queue?
- Is the queue accepting requests?
- Is the queue enabled?
3. Check print service log files
- /usr/spool/lp/logs/requests
- /usr/adm/messages
- /usr/adm/syslog
- /usr/spool/lp/logs/lpsched
- /usr/spool/lp/logs/messages
- /usr/spool/lp/logs/exec
