Emergency Boot Diskettes

You must create a set of "Emergency Boot Floppies". If the hard disk on your system fails, recovering your data is extremely difficult, if not impossible.

This subject is very important. To make sure that your backups are created properly, we refer you to your UNIX System Administration Guide for the proper way to create these disks for your system. For SCO Unix Version 3.2.4.2, this section is located in the manual entitled "Release and Installation Notes".

Once you create these diskettes, you must keep them in a safe place where they can be accessed in the case of an emergency. You should consider making two sets, and keep one on-site in a fire-proof safe, and another off-site in a safe place.

Finally, before storing the Emergency Boot Floppies, you should test them to make sure they were created properly.
