Configuring the httpd.conf file

This is the main server configuration file. Important parameters that can be set in this file are listed in the following table.

ServerType Either standalone or inetd
Port What port to use to send files to remote hosts, usually port 80.
User Use nouser on OpenServer 5 systems.
Group Use nogroup on OpenServer 5 systems.
ServerAdmin The e-mail address of the server administrator, something like webmaster@kroger.com.
ServerRoot The directory where the server's config, error, and log files are kept in.
ServerName Lets you set a host name which is sent back to clients. Must be a valid DNS name for your host.
ErrorLog The name of the error log file, usually logs/error_log.
TransferLog The name of the transfer log file, usually logs/access_log.
PidFile The name of the file that contains the PID of the running server, usually logs/httpd.pid.
