Booting Up a UNIX Computer System

The boot-up process on most UNIX systems is very similar. In most cases it is not necessary to understand the full procedure, so the process is covered very lightly here.

The primary concern during the bootup process is that the operating system will run a process known as 'fsck' - file system check. When 'fsck' is run, you may lose data.
