The Proper Boot-Up Procedure

1. Turn on all external/peripheral devices, such as printers, tape drives, and the monitor.

2. Turn on the power for the main computer unit.

3. Watch the computer system’s main monitor. Pay attention to any warnings that appear during the boot-up process. Call your service/technical support persons if you see any warnings or error messages during the boot-up process.

For SCO XENIX and UNIX systems only:

4a. On SCO XENIX and UNIX systems, the computer will prompt you three times during the boot-up process. The first prompt asks you the name of the kernel to boot from. Just hit the '<Enter>' key to accept the default.

4b. The computer next asks whether you want to go into system administration mode. Use the '^d' key combination to continue the boot process.

4c. The computer next asks for the date and time. Just hit the '<Enter>' key to accept the default.
