"I need to cancel a print job. Can I do this?"

Yes you can stop a print job while it is running. The step-by-step solution to this problem is shown below. Refer to the section on "Printers and Printing" for more details.

Canceling a Print Job

Step #1: Identify the print job that you want to cancel. Type "lpstat -t" to view the list of print jobs, and identify the job you wish to cancel.

Step #2: If the print job is not in your name, you must log in as "root" to stop the job. You can do this by typing "su", and then entering the root password.

Step #3: Next, use the "cancel" command to stop the print job. For instance, if the job you want to cancel is named "sales-2", type "cancel sales-2".

Within a few moments, the job should stop printing. It may take a short while for the printer buffer to print whatever data it contained before stopping.

Step #4: (If you used the "su" command to become root, you can type exit to return to your previous login.)
