An Alaskan day in Colorado

March 23, 2021, a day after the horrible assault rifle mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado, gave a us a day that looked a bit like Alaska. The ground here in Colorado never looks like Alaska, but today the mist in the mountains and overcast sky looked like Alaska, and made me feel a bit more like I was at home here.

March, 2021 snowstorm (Longmont, Colorado)

Over this past weekend, March 13-14, 2021, Denver, Colorado and the surrounding areas had the fourth or fifth largest snowstorm in recorded history. Before the snow stopped last night I saw that Denver had already had 24.1” of snow. This is a photo of my car and some neighbors cars here in Longmont, Colorado.

“The Tree Holding The Moon Over The Rockies”

The hospital was mostly empty yesterday morning (March 10, 2020). When I went to the Imaging Department, the technician was standing at the front desk waiting for me, his only patient. The grocery store was out of TP. But the Moonset around 6:45am was beautiful.

Snow on the Rocky Mountains, southeast of Boulder

I can’t remember the history of this image, but the metadata tells me that I created it on May 13, 2014. It looks like I took a slightly zoomed-in photo with an iPhone 5s, because that also appears in the metadata. This was the view I had from my second apartment in Broomfield, Colorado.

Two moose in Rocky Mountain National Park

Unfortunately this image (and accompanying video) are blurry — I didn’t want to get too close to them — but here are two moose in Rocky Mountain National Park, July 31, 2019.

A brief conversation with a Starbucks barista, somewhere in Colorado

Brief conversation with a Starbucks barista in whatever town I was just in:

“A grande coffee, please.”

“Room for cream?”

“Yes, an inch please.”

“An inch?”

“I won’t be offended if it’s more than that. I won’t drink it all.”

“Okay. Anything else?”

“I haven’t had caffeine in several months, so that should be more than enough.”

“Did you know that some people get sleepy when they have caffeine? I thought that was interesting.”

“Indeed.”

She leans in and whispers, “Don’t tell anyone, but honestly, I only like to drink coffee on the weekends, and then have deep conversations with friends.”

I lean in and quietly reply, “I like your style.”

Long drive from Kentucky to Colorado

Started the drive back to Colorado at 5:50am EST Tuesday in Kentucky. Waited out the morning’s nasty snowstorm with some old-timers and truckers at a McD’s in Georgetown, Indiana.

Got tired of waiting, so when the snow let up a little I got back in the car. Maneuvered through snow-and-ice induced wrecks between Corydon and Evansville. Wanted to kiss the ground when it finally got dry after 11am. Drove through the sunset in Kansas, then followed the truckers, the Moon, and stars across the rest of Kansas and Colorado, arrived home at 12:20am MST Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing if the mountains are white whenever I wake up.

Big blue sky over Boulder

This photo from January 12, 2012 of the Rocky Mountains behind Boulder, Colorado made me feel like I was living on the Moon.
