Getting your thyroid medication dosage right will help you get out of bed in the morning

Phew, I have to say that it’s important to get your thyroid medication at a proper level. Last year the doctors found out that I had thyroid cancer, then removed my thyroid, and ever since then we’ve been “experimenting” to get my thyroid medication at the correct level.

For several months it was all I could do to feel like getting out of bed in the morning. I thought maybe this was just another “old age” thing happening to me, but several weeks ago my doctor increased my thyroid medication dose by another 10%, and it has made a huge difference, especially in regards to getting out of bed in the morning. I no longer lay there wishing I had the energy to get out of bed, I just turn off the alarm and get out of bed like I used to. And then during the day I have plenty of energy, and both of these things are incredibly important to quality of life.

As I’ve learned, thyroid medication is absorbed by the body very slowly, so each testing cycle takes about six weeks. That is, the doctor gives me a new dose of medication, I take it for six weeks, have my blood drawn, and then get a new dose, then wait another six weeks. But I encourage you to stick with it. For a while you may feel down and have no energy, but once they get the dose right, you’ll feel as good as new again.
