A doctor in the ER gave me a prescription for “Moxifloxacin” this week to treat a bout of diverticulitis, and I have to tell you, moxifloxacin is bad news, as in dangerous. The side effects I experienced from taking it were burning and tingling in my feet (peripheral neuropathy), rapid heart rate, the worst case of dry mouth I’ve ever experience, and itching.
The burning and tingling in my feet is still with me 36 hours after the last dose of moxifloxacin I took, and at the moment I’m pretty pissed off at my doctors for suggesting this. After these horrible reactions to moxifloxacin (also known as Avelox), I went back to the ER, at which point they prescribed a much more normal penicillin-type drug, augmentin.
Why would any doctor give you a dangerous drug first, and only after you have a horrible reaction to it would they then give you a standard drug? I have to say, this is the first time in my life I’ve ever thought about suing a doctor for malpractice.
