Hide Your Desktop and Desktop Icons - Free

Hyde is now free!
Tell your friends, tell your family. :)

"Hyde" is a simple application for Mac OS X (™) systems that does one thing, and does it well: It hides your desktop and desktop icons so you can focus on your foreground application.

This is best demonstrated visually.

1) Hiding desktop icons - Before Hyde

First, here's what a Mac OS X system normally looks like when you're working in an app like a text editor:

That probably looks pretty normal -- but that's only because you haven't seen Hyde yet.

2) How to hide Mac desktop icons - Start Hyde

Next, we start up Hyde, just like any other Mac application:

3) Desktop icons are hidden

After starting Hyde and switching back to the same editor, here's what your environment looks like now:

As you can see that's a big change. Hiding your desktop makes for a much better working environment:

  • No distractions.
  • No background "noise".
  • Just you, and the task at hand.

Be careful though: Hyde is productive -- and addictive. If you have to work on a different Mac system that doesn't have Hyde installed, you'll realize how much you miss it!
