In my other life (living in Alaska), I'm wondering if 84% of Alaska write-in voters can spell "Murkowski" right? In my Alaska Murkowski write-in story, I calculate that with the current vote totals, Lisa Murkowski will need a little less than 84% of voters to spell her name correctly to avoid any sort of legal challenge by Joe Miller. If 84% of the current Murkowski write-in votes are spelled correctly, and the votes that have been mailed in (estimated to be as high as 10% of the total vote) don't make a big difference, she will defeat Joe Miller in the Alaska senate race.
If she wins the Alaska senate race, Ms. Murkowski will be only the second U.S. Senator to ever win the race as a write-in candidate. I read this morning that Strom Thurmond also won as a write-in candidate.
