2011 Iditarod News: Some times you just happen to be in the right place at the right time. At the Iditarod "restart"event in Willow, Alaska today, I happened to be standing at the starting gate when four-time Iditarod champion Lance Mackey stepped on the dog sled and headed for Nome, Alaska. This was my first Iditarod race here in Alaska, and it was a blast. If you don't mind cool weather, I highly recommend coming to Alaska for the Ceremonial Iditarod start in Anchorage, Alaska one day, and then today's event, the Iditarod "restart" event in Willow, Alaska. The Iditarod restart is when the race really begins, and as mentioned, all the sled dog teams -- all 62 of them -- are now headed for Nome, Alaska.
