I don’t remember where I saw this image, I think it was on Twitter, but it points out three elements you need for good mobile design. Personally I wish the icons were a little better in iOS -- a little more obvious -- but the idea comes across in these three images. I think the word is “context,” humans need context when using mobile apps, or any apps.

I bought a new Subaru Outback last week, and so far I’m very impressed with Subaru. I just received a “Welcome to the Subaru family” email, which I thought was put together well. It wasn’t arrogant, but just a statement of the resources that are available to new Subaru owners. It shows organization and thoughtfulness (while also helping to promote future sales), and I wish we had something like this when I owned my consulting firm.
I’m currently working on a trilogy of “books” (booklets) about software cost estimating, and the third book in the series is about estimating the time and cost of software development projects in an agile development environment. The book isn’t complete yet, and some of it may not make sense without the first two books in the series, but I thought I’d release it here today, as almost everyone has some sort of “agile” development environment going today (or at least I hope so).
According to Forbes, AppleTV now includes HomeKit software, which will allow smart appliances around the home to communicate to/from iOS devices.
