I just learned about the Beacon Food Forest in Seattle, Washington. This photo comes from this What is a food forest? article.

The life of the universe, displayed as a 24-hour clock. According to this diagram, humans have only been around for one minute and 17 seconds, compared to the total 24 hours of the universe.

A "budget" iPhone prototype design from Nickolay Lamm. According to this page (where the photo/prototype is from), Mr. Lamm is fascinated with trends in the technology and business world, often illustrating these interests in illustrations. He graduated the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration in 2011 and his life goal is to create a startup which changes the world.

In case you were wondering, yes, there is a McDonalds in Taos, New Mexico. I like how they only use this small sign.

This photo shows two attempts at creating images for my next Zen Foundation postcard. The first image represents my first “final” attempt. In this case I knew I wasn’t blown away by the image, but it was the best I could do that night. I posted it on Facebook, got some feedback from a friend, and eventually came up with the second image, which is what I decided to go with.

(Click the image to see a much larger version of it.)

This might be the next postcard I send out for the Zen Foundation ... I don’t know ... I’m really frustrated with the front side ... #argh.

Don't look now, but the Chicago Cubs are in first place! :)

The purpose of the Zen Foundation is to make classic Zen Literature freely available to schools, healthcare facilities, and other locations. Donations are accepted in any amount, $1 or more. (The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization, so in the U.S., your contributions are tax-deductible.)

I just learned that the mayor of my adopted home town of Talkeetna, Alaska is ... a cat.

The story is here on CNN. A short quote:

“For 15 years, Stubbs the cat has held the top office in Talkeetna, Alaska. And his approval ratings have never been higher. 'He doesn't raise our taxes -- we have no sales tax. He doesn't interfere with business. He's honest,' said Lauri Stec, manager of Nagley's General Store, which doubles as the mayor's office.”

Having sat next to a famous cello player's cello on a flight back from Alaska, I wonder what the musicians in Alanis Morissette's Uninvited video think about all the smoke at the end of the performance.

This is one of the first black bears I saw in Canada on my drive to Alaska in May, 2007. By the time the trip ended, I had seen over 100 bears, both black and brown.
