Important note: I wrote the following text just after receiving my Moto 360, charging it, and connecting it to my Android device. At that time these instructions were 100% accurate. But what I learned the next morning is that the Moto 360 user interface changes on the second day (or perhaps within the first 24 hours). I don’t know why it works this way, but in the morning I received a notification saying that pressing the power button now brings up the Settings menu as well as a menu of apps, and sure enough it does. From the main watch face you can also swipe left to get to the apps and settings, and you can also swipe down to get to the settings. I don’t know why the watch UI works like this — maybe they think you’ll be overloaded with information on the first day, I don’t know — but that’s how it worked for me.
Dateline November, 2015: I just bought a first generation Moto 360 watch, which Google (or Motorola) had marked down for $99 on the Google Play Store. The Moto 360 manual says that you can access the Settings menu on the watch as a pull-down option on the watch, but this doesn’t work for me. When I pull-down from the top of the watch face what I see are (a) battery level, (b) date, and (c) mute information.
Instead, to see the Settings menu, I found out by trial and error that what I have to do is:
- Tap the watch face so it is on, then
- Press the Power button for about two seconds
When I do this, the watch vibrates quickly, and then Android Wear “Settings” menu appears.
One other note: To dismiss the Settings menu I have to scroll down to the bottom of the settings options and then swipe to the right. This swipe action doesn’t seem to work anywhere else. The other option is to press the power button again, which turns off the display and also takes the Settings menu off of the watch face.
