Wow, I had no idea how much crime and criminal activity there is in the Champion Farms apartments neighborhood! By my count there are over 30 criminal police reports near Champion Farms from November 8th through November 17th, 2009. (Nobody mentioned that when I moved in.)
This crime reports page from the Louisville Courier-Journal lists all the criminal activity in the local area (the 40241 zip code), and you can see for yourself how much crime there is in this neighborhood. It seemed to me like it has been getting worse over the last year, but as you can see from that Courier-Journal page, the police in this area are kept very busy.
I've mentioned before (Champion Farms crime wave?, More Champion Farms crime information) that I've become increasingly aware of the crime in this neighborhood. I could go on about crime, people yelling, car tires squealing in the parking lot, cars racing through the parking lot, etc. But if you're looking for a safe and secure neighborhood, I can't recommend Champion Farms apartments.
Follow-up
Geez, when it rains, it pours. I came home last night (Thursday, November 19, 2009), and the alarm was going off in a unit next to mine, Unit 203. I walked over to that unit, knocked on the door, then turned the doorknob, and the door was unlocked. I leaned in, yelled a couple of times to see if anyone was in there, and there was no reply. There was no fire or smoke. All the lights were on, and as far as I could see, the apartment was empty.
I called the apartment complex phone number and left them a message about the alarm, and went to bed. When I woke up this morning, I stepped outside, and the alarm was still going off.
